After surviving multiple sex
ual assaults and a long term abusive situation, 16 year old Julia sat down with her mom, Jamie, feeling desperate and alone. Navigating the world as a teenage victim of sexual violence was isolating, and she had no idea how to handle the aftermath of the trauma she had been forced to endure. Resources were hard to find, and without involving the police, there were no safe or clear steps that Julia, or her family could take in order to finally start healing. Frustrated by the lack of societal and interpersonal support, Julia and Jamie decided that the only way to improve the circumstances for young victims of sexual violence was to take it into their own hands. And so, the dream for Survivors to Superheroes was born. Two years later, when Julia and Jamie invited Sandy to join them, the three superheroes began to turn the dream into reality.
